Arifureta Shokugyō de Sekai Saikyō is a Japanese light novel written by Ryo Shirakome and illustrated by Takayaki. It was originally a web novel, that can also be found as a manga, and  will be released as an Anime in July of this year.

Hajime Nagumo, a high school student who was the subject of torment for his class. A new opportunity arises when he and his class mates are transported into a fantasy world. Upon arriving to Tortus they receive a status plate that reveals their class and abilities.

Unfortunately for Hajime, his stats are at a basic 10 points with a class that is of no use in battle compared to his class mates. He has no choice but to work hard, study and fight to bring up his stats.

Kaori Shirasaki is the kind class idol and the only person who genuinely attempts to make conversation with Hajime. Before heading out to their very first raid, the night before she expresses her fears to him. She feared that something terrible would happen, and this is what caused her to plead him to stay home. After their conversation, Hajime asks Kaori to protect him in their adventure.

The following day marks their first adventure, and possibly their last…..when one of the fellow adventurers betrays Hajime causing him to fall deep into the bottom of the dungeon.

Arifureta: From Common Place to World’s Strongest is a series that follows Hajime’s misfortune, his fight for survival, and the aftermath of it all. Hajime Nagumo’s adventure is far from over.

I’m always a sucker for the stories involving misfortune, when things aren’t going cookie cutter perfect for the main character. I enjoy watching them defeat all odds, rather than having everything go their way right off the bat, especially with being transported into other worlds. It gives the story a lot more depth. (Even though I enjoy those too, but for different reasons!) I fell in love with this series as soon as I picked it up, I didn’t really read the synopsis of it when I chose to read it.

It’s safe to say that I had no idea that things were going to play out as they did for Hajime. Let me tell you though, as soon as he hits that bottom floor, shit goes south fast and that in itself is an amazing read with awesome illustrations to follow! How ever the series isn’t always a downer, so don’t worry Hajime has his good times.

I myself am reading the Manga, three volumes are out so far with volume four on pre-order for release later this month.(June) So much excitement! I’m also really excited for that anime to drop! As for light novels they have up to volume five with the sixth on pre-order for early July. This series is a must for everyone who likes fantasy, action, some harem action(who doesn’t like a good harem), and bloody carnage.
